A slight woody, almond-like note differentiates it from other origins where the green facet is accentuated.

Process

A primary extraction with a volatile solvent on fresh or dry biomass yields to a Concrete or Resinoid.
The Absolute is obtained via a second purification step in the process.

Sourcing

Mimosa is valued in perfumery for its soft, honeyed, and powdery floral profile, and it must be processed quickly because of its very short blooming period. Most mimosa absolute is produced through solvent extraction, which requires large quantities of fresh flowers. Approximately 40 tons of blossoms yield only around 100 kilograms of absolute, making it a precious ingredient. While France is historically linked to mimosa, the flower is also sourced from regions such as India and Morocco, which provide more economical but less terroir specific alternatives.
There are two key mimosa species, each with its own characteristics and uses. Mimosa dealbata is a cultivated species, grown for its abundant winter blossoms and widely used in bouquets thanks to its robust, fast‑growing nature.
Mimosa decurrens is a wild species used exclusively in perfumery, valued for the intensity and green‑floral quality of its absolute.

France

Acacia decurrens, Mimosa’s wild species used exclusively in perfumery, comes from the Tanneron massif and nearby villages — the historic mimosa heartland and world’s leading production area. Grasse, Tanneron, and the Côte d’Azur are home to Europe’s largest mimosa forest with a flowering season extending from December to March.
Harvesting is done by hand each February over a short 3‑week window, and material from this area benefits from the Geographical Indication “Pays de Grasse.” Because the flowers are extremely fragile, extraction must occur immediately after picking, carried out in close collaboration with local producers. Fresh blossoms are transformed through solvent extraction to concrete and ethanolic washing to absolute (~1 t flowers → ~2.4 kg absolute), yielding a green, floral, powdery profile emblematic of fine fragrance.
